Unit 3 Projects
Slab building with slump mold- I had a lot of fun making this and learning how to make a slump mold. I didn't place plastic wrap on the mold on my first try and learned that it will crack if you don't. I think I was able to get into all the dips and really capture the shape of the mold.
Coil building- The coil building looked like it would be hard but it actually turned out being a lot easier than I thought and really fun. I liked smoothing the inside of the cup and seeing how it kept its coil shape on the outside. Going around the balls and making a gap in the cup was kind of hard since I had to get the clay to keep from sinking but in the nd it worked out!
Sgraffito- I LOVE how these turned out! It was really fun to make a set of something (coasters). I learned how to do sgraffito since I had never done it before and I really enjoyed it! It was hard to get straight lines but I think it turned out good.
Relief Carving- This is one of my favorite pieces yet! It was so fun to experiment with relief carving and underglaze. I was worried the underglaze would melt together but it stayed exactly as I painted it. It was very hard to get into the cracks of the carving so some areas in the cracks I could not get glaze into.
Slab building with darts- This cup was so satisfying to make with the slab since it came out nice and smooth around the top. I really like the look of the darts, it makes it look like a tea cup. Although, it was hard to smooth the base where the darts were. I love how this turned out and can't wait to glaze it!
