Unit 2 Projects

Pinch pot cut in half (8/20/24) I think this pinch pot went better than my previous one. I still am having trouble getting the sides even and the bottom thinner. But I was able to get the rim smooth and flat. I also was able to cut the pot right down the middle with the wires cutter.

Pinch pot made it to something useful (9/26/24) I really like the heart design I picked out for this little bowl. It looks very cute in my room and is perfect for keys, jewelry and small trinkets. I figured out how to get the clay smooth, by scratching it then using a metal tool then sponge. I had a hard time fully smoothing out the bumps though.

Double Pinch pots put together (9/5/24) This was hard to make since the pot is vertical so the top got heavy and sunk a bit. But I still like how this turned out, I think it would make for a good vase. I could work on smoothing out the sides more so the pot is fully flat all the way around.

Small Sculpture: Frog (9/26/24) I really enjoyed making this piece and am very happy how it came out. Although, I think I could have done the spotted back better and made it more of a dot pattern. There are so many areas that are hard to get into so it was hard to smooth it out, luckily I was able to get the frog to be pretty smooth.

Relief Tile  I really like how this piece turned out. It was fun to make and reminds me of the Santa Cruz mountains. The shapes for the mountains and moon came out well, the stars were a bit harder to do since I carved those into the piece. The colors also turned out very well, the hardest part to paint was the stars since I had to really get in there with the brush while trying to not get yellow paint onto the blue sky.

Historically inspired piece (11/7/24) This piece is a medium fired clay vessel in the Birmingham Museum of Art, it is from ancient Nigeria, Africa, and was made by the Igbo people. I chose this piece because I really like the spiral on the front of the vessel and wanted to try recreating it. I think I was able to capture the shape of the vessel and spiral pretty well but I could have blended the spiral into the vessel more so it could look more like the original.
